Character Guides - Tara - Abilities, Mind - May 30, 2020

Backhand

Pros

Tara starts with Backhand by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. Backhand deals Attack x 1.5 damage and Stun, and can have its cooldown reduced as low as 10 seconds without needing Augmentors, which is great for frequent early-game Stun. With the Restrict Axe equipped, Backhand can also inflict Cooldown Add at a rate faster than Mindcloud does, making it excellent for disabling enemy abilities.

Cons

Once the early game ends and characters with stronger Stun/Knockdown options come into play (including Tara's own Executioner Axe), Backhand will see little use despite its no-Augmentor investment requirements, unless running with Restrict Axe for Cooldown Add.

Cleatqueen

Pros

Tara starts with Cleatqueen by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. It can boost Tara's Combat Movement by as high as 200% for 8 seconds, making it great for closing in for her close-range abilities. While Cleatqueen is active, its High Velocity passive also boosts the damage dealt with her next basic attack, Body ability or Mind ability based on how far Tara has moved (non-dodging) since she last landed one of these attacks on an enemy -- higher Combat Movement fills this up faster, and can to some degree make it an evasive damage booster.

Cons

Cleatqueen/High Velocity involves a lot of weaving in and out from a target, and since High Velocity's boost reverts to 0 the moment damage is inflicted to an enemy, this means that area-of-effect damage like Hatchetwirl will deal boosted damage to only one enemy and the rest receive standard damage, highlighting the negatives of Tara's more single-target focus.

Decapitate

Pros

An ability that does nothing more than inflict Instant Death, its threshold can reach as high as 50% with all passives, the Mind Field Effect and a maxed out Ceres Cleaver equipped. Its 5 second cooldown also makes it useful as a Mind Field Effect influencer/maintainer, even if it means just swinging it at random the moment its cooldown ends.

Cons

Without the Mind Field Effect and the Ceres Cleaver, its Instant Death threshold is merely okay -- and merely okay may not be worth the Augmentor investment, making this mainly a Mind Field Effect build ability.

Willpower

Pros

Willpower is a buff that doubles the damage of Tara's next basic attack/Body ability/Mind ability, and quadruples it during the Mind Field Effect (it is technically octuple damage, but the Mind Field Effect shaves off half by default). Also useful for Body Field Effect builds that utilize Tara's Kill Chop, for its massive single target damage. It also wears off only when it lands, meaning misses won't remove it.

Cons

Like Cleatqueen's High Velocity boost, Willpower wears off immediately on damage dealt, making it less useful for Hatchetwirl's area damage. It also has a 30 second cooldown, which does not start until Willpower is used up -- Willpower needs to have its use effectively planned.

Skill Strike

Pros

Skill Strike deals Attack x 1 damage, but grants Tara up to Defense + 80% for 8 seconds on use (no target needs to be hit, just the ability triggered), and with a cooldown of 10 seconds with all passives, Tara can have high defense frequently. The Restrict Axe can also make it add Cooldown Add to anyone it hits at a rate faster than Mindcloud.

Cons

Its damage is very poor, but its main use is its giant defense buff. Make sure that Willpower or High Velocity is not active when using, as it will be a waste of those two boosts if Tara accidentally hits someone with Skill Strike.
