Character Guides - Alberto - Abilities, Siphon - May 30, 2020

Photon Ray

Pros

Alberto starts with Photon Ray by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. It is a projectile that can deal up to Attack x 3 damage with only 5 seconds of cooldown, with no Augmentors needing to be invested. The low cooldown in particular makes it useful for maintaining the Wind Field Effect. It can do respectable rapid casting and damage when combined with Inner Strength/Force of Mind during the Mind Field Effect.

Cons

Unless aiming for Wind builds or combining with Inner Strength/Force of Mind to power up and/or escape the Mind Field Effect, Photon Ray is not particularly useful outside of these areas.

Static

Pros

Alberto starts with Static by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. Without any passives, it is simply a Stun projectile (basic Stun time of 2 seconds). Maxed out, Static is a projectile that deals Attack x 2.5 damage and 4 seconds of Stun with only 5 seconds of cooldown. It is not only useful for influencing/maintaining the Wind Field Effect, but during the Wind Field Effect, can create a Thunder Storm.

Cons

Static needs investment from two trees -- System Shock and Thunder Storm -- to reach its optimal usage. Outside of Wind Field Effect builds, this is likely not going to happen, due to how many Augmentors are needed, as well as the need for a team based around the Wind Field Effect to utilize Static well.

System Shock

Pros

System Shock at max is a very straightforward, but useful ability -- 4 seconds of Stun to a very large area around Alberto, with 15 seconds of cooldown. Useful in nearly any build.

Cons

System Shock is not useful for team builds that make use of Knockdown or Knockback, since these status ailments override Stun.

Planet Destroyer

Pros

Planet Destroyer is a beam that, maxed out, lasts for 8 seconds and deals Attack x 0.2 damage every 1/10 of a second. This alone would be powerful, totalling up to Attack x 16 damage, but there's something even better with this -- Alberto's Radiation passive makes it so that each successive hit of the beam gets progressively stronger by Attack x 0.2, so long as the beam does not miss for 1/10 of a second. This means that, with Alberto's long Stun times, he can keep an enemy in place and keep Planet Destroyer/Radiation focused on the target for over-the-top damage. Gigas Fists doubles this damage even further.

Cons

Planet Destroyer's weakness is obvious -- if the beam is off an enemy for 1/10 of a second, the massive damage of Radiation is reset to Attack x 0.2. Planet Destroyer's 30 second cooldown means that a poor use is a big disadvantage, and since Planet Destroyer keeps Alberto in place and unable to defend himself while active, that is 8 seconds where an enemy can disable his beam with a status ailment. Alberto needs Cherry or Cook to tank for him if going this route.

Thunder Storm

Pros

At its maximum, Thunder Storm hits an area for 5 seconds with randomly placed lightning bolts that deals Attack x 9 damage each, at 5 bolts per second. During the Wind Field Effect, this damage is doubled and the number of bolts per second increases to 10 (with Gigas Fists, this means that a single Thunder Storm bolt can deal Attack x 36 damage in this scenario). The Wind Field Effect can also allow Static to create additional Thunder Storms at a cooldown faster than Thunder Storm itself.

Cons

The fact that the positioning of Thunder Storm's bolts is random is a big negative. No matter how many or how powerful the bolts may be, it means nothing if they do not land on an enemy. Either Thunder Storm can be lucky and land many bolts with ease, or it may miss entirely.
