Character Guides - Cherry - Abilities, Body - May 30, 2020

Pushback

Pros

Like all characters in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon, Cherry starts with Pushback. Cherry's Pushback gains the ability to inflict a very long distance Knockback, which is useful when breathing room is needed (such as time to heal or cooldowns). Its low cooldown can help maintain the Body Field Effect if the player is aiming for such. It also requires no Augmentors, so it can be acquired without issue for any build.

Cons

Such a large Knockback distance for the purpose of giving the team breathing room also means your team needs to chase down the enemy launched away, and is not good for breathing room if the enemy utilizes projectiles.

Knockdown

Pros

Like all characters in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon, Cherry starts with Knockdown, and is useful for making an enemy unable to fight back for 2 seconds while they receive 50% more damage.

Cons

Knockdown is nice for what it is, but it does not do anything beyond its status ailment. Its 15 second cooldown for its simplicity is also rather high.

Pierce

Pros

Pierce is a good well-rounded ability. It has solid damage output for Cherry (Attack x 6 total damage with passives), very long range and a good cooldown of 10 seconds, making it a solid and frequent damage option. Can combine well with Fortify to hold enemies in place while Cherry uses Pierce from a safe distance, especially during the Body Field Effect. With enemies positioned correctly, one Pierce can hit multiple enemies. Her Fuddle Blade weapon can also add Stun to Pierce. Useful for Cherry if the player wishes to have her contribute to damage a little more frequently.

Cons

While it is a nice solid damage option for Cherry and Pierce acts as more of a mix of good damage/range/cooldown/maybe-Stun, Cherry's offense on its own -- low Attack stat and nothing she can use to generally boost her damage output -- makes Pierce really more of a supporting okay damage within the context of a team.

Hyper Blade

Pros

Hyper Blade has a lot of nice qualities to it -- 4 invincible slashes to an area that deal Attack x 2.5 each, with Fuddle Blade able to add Stun. During the Body Field Effect, it can deal an additional 4x damage, and its invincibility and possible Stun help Cherry and her team last during the double damage provided by the Body Field Effect. Hyper Blade's cooldown can also hit as low as 10 seconds with all passives, making it useful for more frequent invincibility and Body Field Effect maintenance.

Cons

Hyper Blade requires both the Body Field Effect and precise positioning to be used at its most effective. Hyper Blade has no general damage boosting passive, and the slashes from Hyper Blade each cover different areas. For more reliable Hyper Blade usage and getting more slashes to hit an enemy or enemies per usage, position Cherry so that her primary target(s) are right up against her, to Cherry's front-left, before triggering.

Cutthrough

Pros

Cutthrough launches Cherry forward while dealing 8 invincible slashes at Attack x 6 damage (assuming all passives), and has a very useful and notable passive called Dark Cut, which applies Cherry's Dark Energy ability (with all of Dark Energy's passives) to an enemy on hit. Dark Energy is Cherry's Attack debuff. Combining it with Fuddle Blade means that she can apply both Stun to enemies and drop their Attack, and unlike a standard use of Dark Energy, it will help maintain the Body Field Effect while applying her Attack debuff. Having two methods to apply Dark Energy can keep an enemy's Attack at low levels constantly.

Cons

Like most of Cherry's attacks, she has issues with precision and accuracy -- Cutthrough is one of her most notable examples. She has 8 slashes, but at the speed she propels herself forward, all 8 will never apply unless she and the enemy are in a corner, she is at the right angle/position and the enemy cannot move. Even for purposes of just applying Dark Cut/Stun, it can be hard to land hits. Trigger Cutthrough right next to the enemy as they act or are Stunned and Cherry will apply Dark Cut, but also overshoot away from combat. Use it as an approach so that Cherry's final slashes will land on the enemy, they will likely see it coming and dodge away. Combine the approach with Fortify to cut out their dodging, and Cherry will waste valuable seconds off of her Fortify. Used effectively, Cutthrough is very useful, but it needs some planning.
