Character Guides - Claire - Abilities, Siphon - May 30, 2020

Rainfall

Pros

Claire starts with Rainfall by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. Rainfall is an ability that places pools of water around Claire that inflict Knockdown, with a cooldown as low as 10 seconds. During the Water Field Effect, with her Rainstorm passive and her True Ghost weapon, Claire can place up to 24 large waterpools with one calling of Rainfall.

Cons

Rainfall has little negatives, as it is essentially several Knockdown traps that take up large areas, and is one of Claire's most useful abilities, even without the Water Field Effect. Enemies are, however, still subject to the 3 second lockout period after recovering from Knockdown, so if enemies are seen running loose on waterpools without getting knocked down, they will slip and fall again when the lockout period ends.

Waterjet

Pros

Claire starts with Waterjet by default in Story Mode and Endless Dungeon. It is a quasi-beam ability, where Claire fires out a tidal wave that hits a sizeable area in front of her and deals Attack x 1 damage with a cooldown as low as 5 seconds, making it a good Water Field Effect influencer/maintainer. With her Jetpack passive, she can ride the Waterjet to reposition herself and is invincible while doing so, and it now inflicts Knockdown.

Cons

Despite all the versatility of Waterjet, it deals very poor damage. Even Throat Jab and Water Knife will not make it viable as enemies progress in levels.

Fallen Angel

Pros

Fallen Angel is an ability that deals enhanced Knockdown -- 4 seconds base time (as opposed to 2), with only a 1 second lockout period (as opposed to 3). This means that Claire, with tight re-applying of Knockdown, can have an enemy knocked down for 6 seconds over a 7 second period (as opposed to 6 seconds over a 15 second period that standard Knockdown would bring). The Fallen Angel tree also contains the Prone passive, which causes all of Claire's damage dealt to knocked down enemies to be 2x damage rather than a 50% boost.

Cons

Claire has plenty of Knockdown as is, and even though this is enhanced Knockdown, it is easier to land Knockdown with Rainfall and to more enemies.

Toxic Gas

Pros

Toxic Gas allows Claire to inflict Poison to enemies in a sizeable area. Her Toxic Gas tree contains passives that boost her Poison damage and duration heavily, a bonus that extends to her Mind Field Effect/Poison Knife builds. With the Water Field Effect active, Claire can poison all pools of water in play, inflicting Poison to enemies that slip and fall on a poisoned waterpool.

Cons

Toxic Gas on its own is decent, but its best uses are for Mind Field Effect builds for stronger Poison from Poison Knife (and Poison not suffering damage reductions from enemy Defense or the Mind Field Effect) or Water Field Effect builds, where there will be plenty of waterpools to poison. If not going for either of these Field Effects, Toxic Gas may have little to offer.

Torrent

Pros

Torrent is Claire's most damaging option -- maxed out, it deals Attack x 9 damage to a large area with as low as a 10 second cooldown. With the Water Field Effect active, Claire can deal 3x damage if the enemy is poisoned, and 3x damage again if there are 20 or more waterpools in play. Combined with her Water Knife, Claire can deal a very heavy Attack x 162 damage when all is said and done (with Throat Jab not even considered at this point).

Cons

While Torrent is a very damaging ability in its own right, it requires multiple conditions to be set up to do so -- it needs the Water Field Effect, the enemy to be poisoned and there to be 20 or more waterpools at that moment. Claire can provide all of these with a full Water Field Effect build, so it requires commitment.
