Though most of the characters get along with one another, there are instances where certain potential playable characters are directly at odds with another, and the major choice halfway through the main quest (regardless of which of the 5 options were picked for save import/choose your past) will play a large role in whom comprises your final pool of playable party members.

Though there are 20 playable characters total (which includes your custom main), by the end of a path, you will have in the area of 7-10 characters (including your custom main), based on the combination of choices of the save import/choose your past and the major choice in the main quest.

In the image below, it is made quite obvious that Alex is at odds with the Exorcist, to put it lightly.
